Many people get confused by the terms virgin, remy, and 100% human hair quality. Here, I’ll explain the differences so you know what type of hair is best for you. This is especially important if you are trying to understand the differences between synthetic and real human hair.
Virgin Human Hair
Virgin hair is known to be some of the most expensive hair. The upside: it lasts longer than most other hair types and looks the most natural. The term is used rather lucidly online, so it’s important to clarify what makes hair “virgin.”
In short, hair that qualifies cannot be processed in any way. This means no perms, color treatments, dyes, bleaching, blow drying, steam drying or any other form of chemical processing. Virgin hair is supposed to be from a single. By nature, virgin hair is remy hair because all of the hair cuticles should be intact and running in the same direction. If any of these components are missing, you are no longer dealing with virgin hair.
Remy Hair
Remy hair is hair that contains complete, healthy cuticles that all run in the same direction. May times, people get confused because some wigs and extensions are advertised as “virgin remy.” However, unless the hair meets the precise qualifications above, it is not virgin.
Virgin and remy are not mutually exclusive. For example, hair can be remy without being virgin, yet hair cannot be virgin without being remy.
High quality remy hair will sometimes go through steam processing, even though it might have not been dyed or permed. So, that makes it not 100% pure.
The hair industry is not regulated, so there are unscrupulous manufacturers who will mark hair that has no cuticle, or even hair that’s been mixed with synthetics as remy. It is important to buy from a reputable seller and conduct a hair test.
Remy hair is a high quality, 100% human hair, so it’s going to last you longer than your basic 100% human hair. If you take care of it, the hair will maintain a lively natural appearance for a long time. However, remy hair can require more maintenance than your regular 100 percent human hair. Make sure you follow our guide on how to wash human hair.
100% Human Hair
Although it is 100% human hair like remy, this type of hair has no cuticles. They typicaly do this so the hair can be machine processed. The problem with this is when the cuticle is stripped, the hair becomes brittle, matted and dry. With higher quality 100% human hair, the lifetime of the hair can increase, even if it is chemically treated or colored. However, it’s not going to last as long as remy hair.
Lower quality human hair can be mixed with animal and synthetic hairs in order to lower the price. So make sure you pay attention to what you’re getting when you purchase this type.
Human Quality Hair
So what is human hair quality hair? Well, this hair is not 100% human hair because it usually is mixed with premium quality heat resistant or other synthetic fibers. It may have some human hair, but not majority. Human quality hair is going to be a lot cheaper than 100% human hair or remy.
Be cautious with this hair type. It usually can be curled and straightened with a hot iron, but you cannot dye or color this hair because it is not 100 human. If you want hair you’ll be able to dye it at home or a salon, get remy or a virgin hair.
Remember that hair is not a regulated industry. Manufacturers may mark things as something else, even though they’re not. So we have to pay attention to what we’re getting, and know what it looks like, and what the price is worth.
Heat Resistant Hair
Heat resistant hair is made from a high quality synthetic fiber. It’s heat resistant, so you can use flat and curling irons on this hair. This is not human hair, but it is manufactured to resemble human hair. This hair will not last a long time. It should be very cheap. Pay attention to pricing and keep in mind quality remy or 100% human hair is typically not extremely cheap.
